Helping Reactive Dogs Build Confidence Around Everyday Triggers
Reactive dogs aren’t “bad” dogs—they’re dogs that need guidance. Whether your dog barks at other dogs, lunges at people, reacts to bicycles, or struggles to stay calm in busy environments, Behavior Boss provides personalized training designed to replace unwanted reactions with calm, confident behaviors. Our programs focus on teaching your dog what to do instead of simply correcting what not to do. Through structured exercises, confidence building, impulse control, and real-world practice, we help dogs become more relaxed companions both at home and in public.
Every reactive dog progresses at their own pace. Through structured training, confidence building, controlled exposure, and owner education, we help dogs learn calmer responses to the world around them. Every success builds the foundation for lasting behavior change.
Why Choose Behavior Boss?
Building Confident Dogs
Reactive dogs require more than basic obedience. Every training plan is customized to build confidence, improve decision-making, and create lasting behavior change through clear communication and real-world training.
✓ Personalized Training Plans ✓ Real-World Training ✓ Owner Coaching ✓ Long-Term Results
Yes. While every dog is different, many reactive dogs make significant progress with consistent training, structured exposure, confidence building, and owner coaching. Our goal is to help your dog respond more calmly to everyday situations.
What’s the difference between a reactive dog and an aggressive dog?
Reactive dogs typically bark, lunge, or overreact because they’re excited, fearful, frustrated, or overwhelmed. Aggression involves the intent to cause harm. During your evaluation, we’ll determine which behaviors your dog is displaying and create the appropriate training plan.
Will my dog have to interact with other dogs?
No. Training is customized to your dog’s comfort level. Controlled exposure is introduced gradually and only when appropriate for your dog’s progress.
What causes reactivity?
Reactivity can develop from fear, frustration, lack of confidence, genetics, limited social experiences, or previous negative encounters. Every dog is different, which is why training begins with a personalized evaluation.
How long does it take to improve a reactive dog?
Progress depends on your dog’s history, triggers, consistency, and training goals. Many owners begin seeing improvements within the first few sessions, while more complex cases may require additional training.
Do you offer in-home training or Board & Train for reactive dogs?
Yes. Every reactive dog begins with an in-home evaluation. Based on your dog’s behavior and your goals, we’ll recommend either private in-home training or one of our Behavior Modification Board & Train programs. For many non-aggressive reactive dogs, Board & Train allows for more consistent practice, structured exposure, and faster progress.
What happens during the evaluation?
During your in-home evaluation, we’ll discuss your dog’s history, observe their behavior, identify triggers, and recommend the training program that best fits your goals.
How do I get started?
The first step is scheduling an in-home behavior evaluation. From there, we’ll create a customized training plan designed specifically for your dog.
Do you use punishment-based training?
Behavior Boss focuses on clear communication, structure, confidence building, and teaching dogs what to do instead of simply correcting unwanted behaviors. Training is customized to each dog’s individual needs and goals.
Which program is best for my reactive dog?
That depends on your dog’s behavior, triggers, and your training goals. During your evaluation, we’ll determine whether private lessons or a Behavior Modification Board & Train program is the best fit. Our recommendation is always based on what will provide the greatest benefit for your dog.
